Netflix is preparing to release Titan: The OceanGate Disaster, a new documentary examining the fatal voyage of a submersible that imploded in the North Atlantic Ocean during a descent to the Titanic wreck site in June 2023. The incident resulted in the deaths of all five individuals on board, including prominent Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his teenage son, Suleman.
Directed by Mark Monroe, the film is scheduled to premiere at the Tribeca Festival on June 6 and will be available for streaming on Netflix starting June 11. The documentary is a production of Story Syndicate, the team behind notable titles such as Take Care of Maya and Britney vs Spears.

Netflix has described the film as a detailed exploration of how a high-stakes ambition ended in catastrophe. Drawing on firsthand interviews, audio recordings, and video clips, the documentary aims to offer insights into OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush’s vision and his controversial leadership style.
In the trailer, experts and associates voiced concerns about the risks involved in the mission. One participant remarked that Titan’s failure was inevitable, while another described Rush as dangerously obsessed with pushing limits. Claims were also made about his pursuit of recognition, with suggestions that his motivations were driven more by personal ego than scientific progress.
