In a devastating incident that has sent shockwaves across the nation, at least 53 individuals, including a dedicated police officer, lost their lives, and many others were left injured in a horrific suicide blast near a religious procession in Mastung, Balochistan. The tragic event unfolded on Friday, during the 12th Rabiul Awwal procession, as people had gathered to commemorate Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday. While the authorities have launched investigations into the incident, the nation remains in mourning, with leaders from various quarters expressing their condemnation and condolences.

The incident occurred near Madina Masjid at Alfalah Road, where a peaceful procession to mark Eid-i-Miladun Nabi was taking place. As the procession made its way, a suicide bomber targeted the crowd, causing widespread devastation and chaos. Among the victims was Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Gishkori, who heroically attempted to stop the attacker. The explosion left behind a harrowing scene, with bloodied corpses and severed limbs, while dozens were rushed to hospitals for medical assistance.

As the nation grapples with this tragedy, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan has denied any involvement. Balochistan interim Information Minister Jan Achakzai, addressing the situation, expressed his concern about external forces attempting to disrupt religious tolerance and peace in the region. He urgently called for blood donors to aid the injured, highlighting the critical need for support.

Deeply saddened by the cowardly attack on innocent people during Eid Miladun Nabi (SAW) procession in Mastung. Such heinous acts are highly condemnable and have no place in our country. May the victims rest in peace, and may justice be swift for those responsible.

The death toll from the blast is heart-wrenching, with the actual number potentially higher due to some families burying their loved ones without involving the hospitals. As for the injured, many remain in critical condition, prompting considerations of air-lifting them to specialized care units in Karachi from Quetta if their conditions deteriorate further. The aftermath of this attack leaves the affected communities reeling and underscores the need for unity in the face of terror.

Balochistan Inspector General Abdul Khalique Sheikh has vowed to take strong action against those responsible for the bombing and anyone providing them shelter. He acknowledged the presence of active extremist groups in the region, with previous attacks attributed to outlawed organizations such as Daesh. The aim of such acts of terrorism, he noted, was to create chaos and instability, and security forces have been instructed to counter these elements vigorously.

In a related incident, a controlled hand grenade blast occurred near the site of the suicide bombing, further intensifying security concerns in the area. The Counter Terrorism Department successfully defused the grenade to prevent any additional harm.

Leaders from across the political spectrum have expressed their deep sorrow and condemnation of the attack. Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar reiterated the government’s determination to eradicate terrorism from the country, pledging to provide the best medical treatment to the injured. Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti emphasized that terrorists have no faith or religion and called for unwavering efforts in treating the injured while denying any concessions to those responsible for the attack.

The incident has not only drawn condemnation within Pakistan but has also elicited a response from neighboring Iran. The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Naseer Kan’ani, extended condolences to Pakistan and its people, emphasizing that such acts of terror stand in stark contrast to the teachings of the Prophet.
