PTI Intra-Party Elections

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party is facing legal challenges regarding its intra-party elections. The PTI has filed a contempt petition against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for allegedly violating a top court order to ensure fair elections. The PTI has also challenged the ECP’s verdict on the party’s intra-party polls and electoral symbol in the Peshawar High Court.

The party alleges that its members face arrests, harassment, and the confiscation of nomination papers, amounting to a breach of the principles of fair and open elections. Additionally, a former PTI member, Jahangir Khan, has decided to file an appeal with the Supreme Court against the Peshawar High Court’s stay order on the ECP’s decision that nullified the PTI’s intra-party elections. Khan argues that the party’s elections did not comply with electoral regulations and that he was dismissed from the party without notice after filing a case against the elections in the ECP. He also alleges that there were fixed rates for tickets in the PTI’s electoral process, implying potential irregularities within the party’s internal mechanisms.
