PM takes political leaders into confidence after Pakistan strikes India

Islamabad: As military tensions with India continue to rise, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif initiated high-level consultations with key political leaders across the country on Saturday. The move aims to foster national unity and collective resolve amid Pakistan’s retaliatory strikes in response to Indian military aggression.

According to News Reports, the premier personally reached out to leaders from all major political parties, briefing them on the latest security developments and the measures taken by Pakistan’s armed forces following India’s unprovoked missile and drone attacks.

The following leaders were contacted:

  • Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chairman, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)

  • Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Chief, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F)

  • Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chairman, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)

  • Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Convener, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P)

  • Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Emir, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI)

  • Khalid Magsi, Leader, Balochistan Awami Party (BAP)

  • Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Senior Leader, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q)

During these phone calls, PM Shehbaz took the political leadership into confidence over Operation Bunyan-um-Marsus, Pakistan’s counteroffensive against Indian targets, launched in response to a wave of attacks that included the Noor Khan Airbase, Shorkot and Murid airbases.

The prime minister emphasized that India’s actions targeted not only strategic military assets but also innocent civilians, and that Pakistan’s response was both measured and necessary to uphold national sovereignty.

Sources within the Prime Minister’s Office noted that the political leaders assured full support to the government and armed forces, underscoring the importance of national unity and bipartisan cooperation in times of external aggression.

The outreach by the Prime Minister comes amid ongoing missile exchanges and air strikes between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, with the international community urging restraint and diplomacy to avoid further escalation.
