A horrifying incident involving a three-year-old girl has sparked strong criticism against the online shopping platform Temu, with many accusing the company of ignoring product safety.
Amy, a 36-year-old mother from Norwich, shared that she bought a £4 electric cleaning brush from Temu to help with household chores. But what seemed like a harmless purchase turned into a nightmare when her young daughter picked up the brush and it switched on automatically, pulling her hair inside and leaving a large bald patch on her head.
“I didn’t realise how bad it was until I saw her hair stuck in the brush,” Amy said. “My husband lifted her hair, and there was a massive bald spot. She was crying in pain and kept saying, ‘My head hurts.’”
Even a month later, her daughter’s hair has not started to grow back. Heartbroken, Amy warned other parents, saying, “I don’t want any other child to go through this.”
After she reported the product to Norfolk Trading Standards, Temu removed the item from sale in the UK. However, Amy believes the company acted too late. “Temu doesn’t care about people’s safety,” she said.
Temu responded, saying, “The safety and wellbeing of our customers are our top priority,” and claimed to be in contact with the family. But many consumers remain unconvinced.
