The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has asked Muslims across the Kingdom to look for the crescent moon on Tuesday evening. The sighting of the moon will decide the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
Tuesday marks the 29th day of Shabaan. If the crescent moon is seen that night, Ramadan will begin on Wednesday. However, if the moon is not sighted, Shabaan will complete 30 days and Ramadan will start on Thursday.
The court requested that anyone who sees the crescent should report their sighting to the nearest court. People can give their testimony directly or contact a local center for help in reaching the court. The moon can be sighted with the naked eye or by using binoculars.
The court also encouraged people who are able to sight the moon to join official moon-sighting committees in their areas. These committees are formed to ensure accurate confirmation of the new month.
The announcement is important for Muslims across Saudi Arabia, as Ramadan is a sacred month of fasting, prayer, and reflection. The final decision will be made after verified reports of the moon sighting are received.
