Egypt Opens the Grand Egyptian Museum

Egypt is finally ready to open the long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum known as GEM, the largest museum in the world dedicated to ancient civilization. Located near the Giza Pyramids on the edge of Cairo, this $1 billion project has taken more than 20 years to complete.

The museum will officially open to the public on Tuesday, with a grand ceremony for world leaders set for Saturday. Security in the capital has been tightened ahead of the big event. Over 50,000 artifacts are on display, showcasing Egypt’s history from prehistoric times to the Roman era.

For the first time ever, the complete tomb collection of King Tutankhamun will be displayed. His treasures, discovered in 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter in Luxor, remain among the most fascinating discoveries in history. Two large halls in the museum are fully dedicated to King Tut’s artifacts.

The museum’s design itself is breathtaking, featuring a giant triangular glass facade that mirrors the nearby pyramids. The site is connected to Giza by a new bridge, and nearby areas have been renovated, including new roads and a metro line.

President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi called the museum a symbol of unity between Egypt’s ancient genius and modern creativity. He hopes it will boost tourism and revive Egypt’s struggling economy after years of political unrest.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is more than a building it is a tribute to Egypt’s timeless spirit, inviting the world to rediscover the beauty and brilliance of one of the greatest civilizations in history.
