In a bizarre medical case, doctors at the General Hospital in Hurghada, Egypt, successfully removed a mobile phone from a man’s stomach through emergency surgery. The unusual incident has caught the attention of medical professionals worldwide, highlighting rare but serious cases of accidental ingestion.

The patient was admitted to the hospital in a critical state, complaining of severe abdominal pain, continuous vomiting, and extreme weakness. A preliminary medical scan revealed a foreign object in the stomach, which was later confirmed to be a small mobile phone accidentally swallowed by the patient. The circumstances of how the phone ended up in his stomach remain unclear.

Dr. Karim El-Shabrawy, the hospital’s director, stated that a specialized surgical team operated immediately. He emphasized that the procedure was delicate due to the risk of internal injuries, but it was completed successfully without complications. The patient regained consciousness and is currently under close observation for full recovery.

Medical experts note that while cases of swallowing foreign objects are rare, they can be life-threatening and require urgent medical attention. Ingesting objects like mobile phones, batteries, or sharp items can cause internal bleeding, infection, or obstruction, making immediate intervention crucial.

This case adds to a series of unusual medical incidents reported globally. In 2021, a similar case in Egypt involved a mobile phone lodged in a patient’s oesophagus, which also required emergency surgical intervention. Hospitals worldwide have reported cases where children and adults accidentally swallow coins, batteries, toys, and other items, emphasizing the importance of awareness and medical preparedness.

Authorities and health officials are investigating the unusual case to determine the exact circumstances, while medical staff continue monitoring the patient. This incident serves as a reminder of the unexpected dangers of ingesting foreign objects and the vital role of timely medical intervention.
