Tech billionaire Elon Musk has launched a new political party in the United States, aiming to challenge what he termed a “one-party system” dominated by wasteful spending and political stagnation. The move follows an escalating feud with former ally and current US President Donald Trump.
Musk, who was previously a major donor to Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, had a public falling-out with the president after opposing a sweeping domestic spending package.
The SpaceX and Tesla chief had led a federal cost-cutting initiative known as the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), but clashed with Trump over the bill’s projected impact on the national debt.
In a series of posts on his social media platform X, Musk said the new “America Party” would provide an alternative to the entrenched two-party system, which he claims has failed to address fiscal responsibility and public accountability.

He cited an online poll, posted on July 4, in which a majority of 1.2 million respondents supported forming a new party. Declaring the results decisive, Musk vowed to reshape the political landscape.
Political observers say it remains unclear how much influence the America Party might wield in upcoming elections. However, Musk has already signaled a strategy to target vulnerable Congressional seats. He stated that the party could focus on a handful of Senate and House races to act as a swing vote on key legislation.
Tensions between Musk and Trump flared further when the president reportedly considered revoking federal support for Musk’s companies and even hinted at reviewing his immigration status.
