Large parts of Balochistan, including Quetta, have received the second snowfall of the winter season, turning cities and towns into white landscapes. The snowfall brought beauty and joy for many people, but also created serious challenges for daily life and travel.
Areas such as Quetta, Ziarat, Pishin, Kalat, Mastung, Qila Saifullah, Muslim Bagh, Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Noshki and Chagai were covered with snow. In many places, several inches of snow were recorded. People were seen taking photos, enjoying the cold weather, and watching the snowfall, even as temperatures dropped sharply.
At the same time, rainfall was reported in Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, Awaran and Khuzdar, adding to the cold conditions across the province. Cold winds and freezing air made the weather even more severe, especially at night and early morning.
To handle the situation, authorities moved quickly. The National Highway Authority (NHA) deployed heavy machines to clear snow from main roads. Important highways connecting Quetta with Chaman, Zhob, Qila Saifullah, Taftan and Rakhni were reopened for traffic. Workers stayed on duty day and night to stop roads from closing again.
In hilly areas like Kozhak Top, snowfall caused blockages, but emergency teams and heavy machinery were sent to restore road links. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) also remained alert to deal with emergencies.
While the snowfall has made the region look beautiful, it has also increased risks for travelers and local residents. Slippery roads, low visibility, and freezing temperatures continue to cause problems.
Authorities have advised people to travel carefully, avoid unnecessary journeys, and follow safety instructions. More cold weather is expected in the coming days, and officials remain on standby to manage any new challenges.
