The Gilgit-Baltistan government on Sunday confirmed that a third family has reported their loved ones missing due to the devastating flash floods on Babusar Road, this time involving local TV journalist Shabana Liaqat and her family.

According to government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, Shabana Liaqat — an anchorperson associated with a regional news channel — is feared to have been swept away by the floods alongside her husband Liaqat and their three children.

“Her purse was recovered by local volunteers, which contained her identification card,” Faraq stated.

He added that eyewitness accounts suggest that between 10 to 15 tourists may have been caught in the powerful flash floods that struck the Babusar Pass area.

Casualties and Search Efforts:

So far, seven bodies have been recovered from the site. The search operation is ongoing, supported by drones, tracker dogs, local volunteers, and multiple official agencies.

“We will continue the operation until all the missing persons are located,” Faraq assured.

The extensive rescue mission involves:

  • Diamer Police

  • District Administration

  • Rescue 1122

  • Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts

  • Pakistan Army

  • Disaster Management Authorities
