The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide heatwave warning, forecasting extreme weather conditions to persist until June 21, with dangerously high temperatures expected to grip large parts of the country.
According to the PMD, scorching daytime conditions will prevail in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the plains of Punjab, upper and central Sindh, and southern and eastern Balochistan. The heatwave is being described as one of the most intense in recent years.

Officials have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours (11 a.m. – 4 p.m.), stay hydrated, and take all necessary measures to prevent heatstroke, particularly for children, the elderly, and outdoor laborers.
“The intensity of this heatwave can be dangerous, especially for vulnerable groups,” a PMD spokesperson warned.
Hospitals and Relief Agencies Mobilised
Healthcare facilities across Pakistan have been put on high alert to manage a potential influx of patients suffering from heat-related illnesses. Relief agencies and local administrations are coordinating efforts to distribute clean drinking water, rehydration salts, and portable cooling units in urban slums and rural areas.
Shorter School Hours Considered
In response to the escalating situation, education departments in several districts are considering abbreviated school hours to shield students from the harsh mid-day sun.
