Flood warnings have been issued across Punjab as monsoon rains continue to swell major rivers, with rising water levels posing a serious threat to several districts. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the situation may escalate if rains persist through September 9.
The Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers are experiencing high flows at multiple points. On Friday, Chenab River reached 331,000 cusecs at Head Trimon, while the Ravi and Sutlej also crossed critical thresholds at key barrages. Low-lying areas and riverside settlements are at increased risk.
“Citizens are strongly advised to stay away from riverbanks and avoid fishing or recreational activities,” said a PDMA official. Local authorities have begun preparatory evacuations in flood-prone zones, particularly in Narowal, Sialkot, Kasur, and Bahawalnagar.

The monsoon spell is expected to persist, further straining embankments and flood channels already nearing capacity. Relief teams have been mobilised, and emergency shelters are being set up across vulnerable areas.
This year’s flooding follows a pattern of intensified rainfall observed in South Asia due to climate variability. With major rivers flowing near or above danger levels, authorities are urging the public to monitor official alerts closely and avoid unnecessary travel to affected zones.
Floods in Punjab not only threaten property and infrastructure but also impact agriculture. With thousands of acres at risk of submersion, damage to crops and livestock is a growing concern.
