PDMA Issues Heatwave Alert as Temperatures Set to Rise Across Punjab

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has warned that the ongoing heatwave is likely to intensify across major parts of the province, with temperatures expected to rise further by May 19. Citizens have been urged to take all necessary precautions to stay safe during the extreme weather.

A PDMA spokesperson, while speaking to a news outlet, advised tourists heading to Murree to stay informed about changing weather conditions and avoid travelling during periods of instability. Authorities also recommended that residents and visitors remain indoors during peak heat hours and steer clear of open areas during stormy weather.

Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been directed to remain on high alert as heavy rainfall is also forecasted in certain regions.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted strong winds and thundershowers in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and surrounding mountainous areas, particularly in the evenings and at night.

The heatwave is expected to affect large parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, and Balochistan. While daytime temperatures may surge, some areas could also see evening rain and wind.

Health authorities are especially concerned for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and individuals with existing health issues. They have shared safety tips for the public, which include:

  • Drink plenty of water

  • Avoid direct sunlight

  • Take cold showers or baths

  • Wear loose, light-coloured clothing
