Pakistan Weather Update PMD Forecasts Rain, Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

A fresh weather system is set to change conditions across Pakistan just days before the Eid holidays, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. The alert has raised concerns for travel plans and outdoor activities, with experts warning that several regions may face sudden weather shifts, including hailstorms and snowfall in higher areas.

According to the Met Office, a new westerly wave will enter the country from the evening of March 17. This system is expected to first impact western regions before spreading across most parts of the country by March 18. The weather activity will gradually weaken by March 20. Westerly waves are seasonal systems that often bring rain, cooler temperatures and strong winds.

Balochistan is likely to be the first province affected. Cities such as Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman and Gwadar may experience rain, thunderstorms and strong winds, with chances of isolated hailstorms. The spell is expected to continue intermittently until March 20.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas including Chitral, Swat and Peshawar are forecast to receive rain and gusty winds, along with snowfall in mountainous regions. Occasional hailstorms may also occur in some districts.

Meanwhile, Punjab and Islamabad are expected to witness rain from the night of March 17 through March 20. Major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad may experience thunderstorms and strong winds, while southern districts such as Multan and Bahawalpur could see similar conditions on March 18 and 19.

In the northern areas, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are likely to receive heavy rain and snowfall in higher altitudes. Tourist regions like Hunza and Skardu may experience colder conditions and heavier spells.

Sindh, including Karachi, is also expected to see cloudy weather with rain and thunderstorms on March 18 and 19.

The PMD has advised people, especially those in hilly regions, to remain cautious due to the risk of landslides and difficult travel conditions. Authorities are urging citizens to stay updated and take necessary precautions during this changing weather pattern.

With Eid approaching, this weather system may bring both relief from heat and challenges for travelers across the country.
