Authorities in Pakistan have sounded high alert across several regions as monsoon rains intensify under an active southwest system expected to continue until the end of July.
According to the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC), widespread showers may trigger floods, landslides, and urban waterlogging in vulnerable areas across Punjab, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir.
In Punjab, major rainfall is forecast in Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, and Narowal, with moderate showers likely in southern parts including D.G. Khan and Rahim Yar Khan. Reactivation of torrents and a rise in water levels in local streams and nullahs are expected.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rainfall and thunderstorms are predicted for Swat, Dir, Kohistan, and Malakand. Tributaries such as Panjkora, Bara, and Kalpani Nullah may experience elevated flows, with potential flooding near the River Kabul in Nowshera. Urban centres like Peshawar, Mardan, and Abbottabad are also at risk of water accumulation.

Chitral Valley, particularly Booni and Reshun, could face river surges due to the dual impact of glacier melt and heavy rainfall. The River Chitral may see a significant rise in flow levels.
Meanwhile, in Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK, authorities are monitoring rainfall in Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, and Neelum Valley. These areas are prone to landslides and flash floods. Muzaffarabad and Bagh may experience urban flooding and transport disruption.
The NDMA has instructed local authorities to deploy emergency teams, prepare evacuation plans, and maintain strict monitoring of river systems. The public has been advised to stay indoors during storms, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety guidance issued by district officials.
