Monsoon rains are set to persist across Pakistan for at least two more days, according to the Meteorological Department, prompting officials to raise the alarm over possible flooding in both urban and riverine areas.
Officials say July has brought 25% more rain than usual across the country, though Sindh has remained relatively dry. The outlook for August suggests even more intense rains, increasing the risk of flash floods in cities and rising river levels.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab has sounded alerts for the Chenab and Jhelum rivers, where moderate flooding is expected between July 30 and 31. Additional pressure is anticipated on the Ravi and Sutlej rivers, with the latter likely to see a rise in water flow at Ganda Singh in the coming day.

Urban flooding is also a concern, with the PDMA warning of likely inundation in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Gujranwala. Authorities fear that heavy rain could cause water to accumulate rapidly in built-up areas, particularly where drainage systems are already under strain.
Divisional commissioners in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Sahiwal have been told to stay vigilant. The Punjab Relief Commissioner has ordered all departments to prepare emergency plans and deploy teams in vulnerable areas.
