Several areas of Punjab are grappling with flood emergencies following days of relentless rain. A cloudburst in Chakwal and flash floods in Jhelum have submerged villages, while urban flooding has severely impacted daily life in Rawalpindi.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), a rain emergency has been declared in Rawalpindi, prompting the announcement of a local holiday. Authorities began evacuating low-lying areas near Nullah Lai, with Pakistan Army troops assisting in rescue operations.

In Jhelum’s Dhoke Badr village, army helicopters successfully rescued 40 individuals stranded by floodwaters. Rescue teams across Rawalpindi, Chakwal, and Jhelum have reported no loss of life so far due to timely interventions.

However, the overall monsoon toll remains grim. PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia revealed that 103 people have died and 393 have been injured across Punjab this season. He urged residents in vulnerable areas to follow safety guidelines and cooperate with relief workers, especially as a new monsoon system is expected to enter the region from July 21.

In Chakwal, the breach of the Panwal Dam caused significant flooding, damaging nearby areas including a brick kiln. Three individuals were swept away, of whom two were rescued. The search for the third person continues.

Meanwhile, the collapse of the Adhwal Bridge has disrupted road access between Chak Malook, Adhwal, and Chakral. Authorities have also raised alarms over the deteriorating condition of embankments at smaller dams in Muswal, Bhakkari, Lakhwal, and Khanpur.
