WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let people connect using usernames instead of phone numbers. This update is being tested in the app’s latest beta version for Android. This change is one of the biggest privacy updates in WhatsApp’s history. By allowing connections without phone numbers, the app will make it easier for people to chat without revealing personal contact details. This will be especially useful in group chats or when talking to new people.
Reports indicate that WhatsApp is also establishing guidelines for creating usernames. A username must include at least one letter and can have lowercase letters, numbers, periods, and underscores. However, it cannot start with “www.”
