WhatsApp is testing a new artificial intelligence feature aimed at making messaging easier for users who struggle with tone, wording, or simply dislike typing long texts.

The tool, called Writing Help, is being trialled in the beta version 2.25.19.8 for Android. It functions as a built-in AI assistant that can rewrite messages in different tones, including Professional, Funny, Supportive, or Clear and Corrected.

Once activated through settings, the feature appears in the emoji menu. By tapping a new icon next to the usual smiley faces, users can see three alternative versions of their message, each tailored to a specific tone. The feature allows users to review and select a rewritten message, offering a more personalised communication experience.

Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, has stated that the Writing Help tool operates entirely on the user’s device, a process it calls Private Processing. This means that no message data is uploaded to the cloud, ensuring both privacy and security. Feedback submitted by users about the feature is also anonymised, according to the company.

This experiment is part of Meta’s wider push to bring AI-powered tools into its messaging platforms. It follows previous integrations of AI assistants and features that aim to enhance how users interact digitally.
