Twitter lays off employees

Twitter lays off employees

According to a report by the Information, Twitter has laid off dozens of employees, impacting multiple engineering teams that support advertising technology, the main Twitter app, and the technical infrastructure that keeps the company’s systems up and running. The layoffs are said to be at least the eighth round of job cuts since Elon Musk took over the social network in late October.

Twitter has not yet commented on the job cuts. However, it’s worth noting that this is not the first time that Musk has made job cuts at Twitter. In early November, the company laid off around 3,700 employees in a cost-cutting measure. Musk, who acquired Twitter for $44 billion, has been trying to reduce costs and turn around the social media platform’s fortunes.

The latest job cuts are said to be aimed at offsetting a plunge in revenue following Musk’s takeover and further reducing a staff that had already shrunk by at least 70% to roughly 2,000. Musk has previously stated that Twitter was experiencing a “massive drop in revenue” as advertisers pulled their spending amid concerns about content moderation.

It’s unclear how many employees have been impacted by the latest round of job cuts, but it’s likely to be a significant number given the impact on multiple engineering teams. The move is part of Musk’s ongoing efforts to streamline Twitter and make it more profitable.

Twitter has faced significant challenges in recent years, including concerns over fake news, hate speech, and other harmful content on the platform. Musk’s acquisition of the company was seen as an opportunity to turn things around and create a more sustainable business model.

However, it remains to be seen whether the latest round of job cuts will help Twitter to achieve its goals. The social media landscape is highly competitive, and Twitter will need to continue to innovate and adapt if it wants to remain relevant in the years ahead.
