Sora 2 was launched on September 30, 2025, along with its iOS app. All videos created with the tool include a visible moving watermark designed to prevent misuse. The earlier version of Sora also had a safety watermark to help viewers tell the difference between real and AI-generated content.
Just a week later, on October 7, 2025, Media reported that some third-party programs were already being used to remove the watermark from Sora 2 videos.
Sora 2 video generator also uses copyrighted material, unless the original copyright holders specifically opt out of allowing their content to be included.
The company admitted Sora still struggles with physics, cause and effect, and left-right recognition. For example, wolf pups appearing to multiply in a scene. Open AI also restricts sexual, violent, hateful, or celebrity-related prompts to ensure safe use of the tool.
