Ram Fish’s Journey from Tech Executive to Healthcare Innovator

Ram Fish is an American technology entrepreneur who has spent more than 25 years of his life in the tech industry. He is known for working at major companies such as Apple, where he leads the iPod team, and Samsung, where he served as Vice President of Digital Health. He is the founder and CEO of 19Labs, a healthcare company providing aid to rural areas. Moreover, His journey demonstrates that technology can be used to improve lives, not just in creating gadgets.

Ram Fish has completed his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in computer engineering from Case Western Reserve University, where he graduated with honours. He completed his MBA from Yale School of Management, where he studied organisational behaviour and was part of the first Grand Strategy class, which teaches leadership and planning skills. Ram started his career by working at companies like Nokia and Openwave Systems, where he worked on technology products. Later, he joined Apple, where he led the iPod team, and he was responsible for the development and bringing new features to the product.

After working at Apple, he joined Samsung, where he served as the Vice President of Digital Health. He led Samsung’s project called “Voice of the Body”. The project focuses on how technology can be used to monitor and improve health. After working in technology companies, Ram founded two startups, BlueLibris and Fonav. He gained experience from these startups and prepared for the big project. In 2015, Ram Fish founded 19Labs, a healthcare company that provides medical aid to rural communities in Latin America. The idea came into his mind with personal experience when he was in the rural areas of Mexico with his family, where his daughter became ill. They struggled to find medical care, and there he realised how hard to get medical aid in rural areas.  This experience inspired him to create a company that brings medical care to places where no hospitals or doctors are available.

19Labs partners with the schools, the Government, and clinics to install GALE stations where people can use them. These stations are used to connect patients with doctors using video calls and allow basic health checkups using smart devices. Ram Fish’s journey started with making gadgets and turned into transforming healthcare using technology. It demonstrates how a career in technology can evolve in a meaningful way.
