In a significant leap for Pakistan’s auto industry, Chinese automotive giant BYD has officially launched the country’s first plug-in hybrid electric pickup truck, the Shark 6, during a special workshop held in Karachi on Friday.
Priced at PKR 19.95 crore, the Shark 6 brings advanced PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) technology to the Pakistani market, promising a cleaner, more sustainable alternative for both urban drivers and commercial users.
“This is not just a hybrid upgrade — it’s a transformative shift in how we think about mobility,” said Danish Khaliq, Vice President Sales and Strategy at BYD Pakistan. “The Shark 6 is built with a dual-drive system where the electric motor handles the primary load, while the internal combustion engine supports long-range performance.”

Designed for flexibility, the Shark 6 features a 1.5-litre high-efficiency engine combined with a large-capacity battery, allowing full-electric mode driving for everyday commutes and fuel-efficient performance for longer routes.
Li Jian, Country Head of BYD Pakistan, emphasized that the model fills a critical gap in Pakistan’s auto sector, where demand is rising for fuel-efficient, eco-conscious commercial vehicles.
“Pakistan is ready for innovation,” Jian said. “We’ve spent decades refining our dual-mode PHEV technology, and the Shark 6 reflects our commitment to sustainability and technological leadership.”
While BYD has not announced a specific rollout schedule, company officials stated that the Shark 6 launch is part of a broader strategy to promote hybrid adoption across South Asia, especially amid rising fuel prices and climate concerns.
