The e-challan system in Pakistan has undergone a significant transformation, with the Safe Cities Authority unveiling new features aimed at simplifying how citizens manage their traffic fines.
Under the revised process, traffic challans will no longer be sent through email inquiries. Instead, motorists will receive their challans directly on their mobile phones through WhatsApp, using numbers registered with the Excise Department.
Each message will display details of the challan, including camera images of the violation, along with a secure link for instant online payments. Officials say this will save citizens the hassle of visiting offices or using multiple channels to settle fines.
The Safe Cities website has also been upgraded. A new “Review” button allows users to dispute incorrect challans online. Technical staff will verify the claims, and if found accurate, cancel the challan without delay.
Authorities said the changes are designed to make the system transparent, efficient, and citizen-friendly. The option to pay fines through the official website remains available, providing users with flexibility.
