The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the immediate removal of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman, ruling that his appointment did not meet legal requirements.
Justice Babar Sattar announced the verdict in a 99-page detailed judgment. The court accepted petitions challenging the legality of the appointment of PTA chief and declared the process inconsistent with the law.
In its order, the IHC directed that the current chairman be relieved of his duties without delay. The court further instructed that a senior member of the PTA be given the role of acting chairman until a new appointment is made in line with the law.
The judgment emphasizes the need for transparent and lawful procedures in appointing the head of a regulatory body overseeing one of Pakistan’s most vital sectors.
The PTA plays a central role in regulating telecommunication services, internet policies, and digital infrastructure in the country.
