China has taken a big step toward green technology by launching the world’s largest electric cargo ship, powered completely by lithium batteries instead of traditional fuel.
The ship, named “Gizuba,” is an impressive 130 meters long and can carry 13,000 tons of cargo. It is powered by 12 lithium battery power units, which together provide 24,000 kWh of electricity enough to keep the giant vessel moving for long journeys.
According to engineers, Gizuba has a maximum range of 500 kilometers and comes with quick-change batteries, allowing it to recharge and return to service faster than conventional ships. It also features remote navigation and automatic docking, thanks to an advanced smart control system that makes operations smoother and safer.
Yin Xinping, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, said that the ship’s launch is not just the creation of a new product but a major technological achievement. It marks success in testing large-scale battery systems, DC power technology, and remote piloting systems all developed within China.
Experts believe this new electric cargo ship will help cut carbon emissions by 2,000 tons and save 617 tons of fuel every year. This makes it a major step toward building a cleaner, greener shipping industry.
With this innovation, China has shown the world that the future of shipping can be powerful, smart, and environmentally friendly proving that progress and sustainability can sail together.
