OpenAI has introduced a major update to ChatGPT, allowing it to connect with popular apps like Spotify, Booking.com, and Canva through a new Apps SDK. This feature turns ChatGPT into a more interactive digital assistant, capable of performing real-world tasks such as booking flights, creating playlists, or browsing property listings all within the chat interface.

The update was announced by CEO Sam Altman at OpenAI’s Developer Day in San Francisco. He explained that the Apps SDK lets ChatGPT integrate with partner platforms to carry out actions directly, making it easier for users to handle tasks without leaving the chat. Initial partners include Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify, and Zillow, with more expected to join later this year.
Users can now type commands like “Spotify, make a playlist for my party this Friday” or request home listings through Zillow, and ChatGPT will respond with interactive results. Altman emphasized that the technology has matured enough to handle these integrations reliably, making the AI assistant truly task-oriented.
