Elon Musk’s Twitter Embraces Trendy ‘Dark Mode’

Tech mogul Elon Musk has been on a rebranding spree with the popular microblogging platform Twitter. After recently revealing that Twitter will be renamed “X” and bidding farewell to its iconic blue bird logo, Musk has now announced that the social media platform will undergo a color scheme makeover, embracing the trendy “dark mode.”

Twitter currently offers users three background options: “Default,” “Dim,” and “Lights out,” which correspond to white, gray, and black backgrounds, respectively. However, Musk shared on Thursday that the platform will soon exclusively adopt the “dark mode,” eschewing the other options.

According to Musk’s tweet, the new “dark mode” is touted to be “better in every way.” This mode features a dark gray background, which is known to be easier on the eyes and can also save battery power on mobile devices. Many other social media platforms have already embraced “dark mode” due to its growing popularity among users.

Musk’s decision to opt for a darker color scheme might also influence the appearance of the Twitter verification checkmark, currently blue, which a user inquired about. Musk responded that he likes the idea of a black verification checkmark, but it might not be suitable for use in the “dark mode.”

The announcement comes as part of Musk’s efforts to rebrand Twitter into an “everything app,” potentially distancing it from its previous image and ownership.

Earlier this week, Musk introduced the new Twitter logo, replacing the blue bird with a stylized “X.” This move marks a significant shift in the platform’s visual identity and symbolizes Musk’s vision for the future of Twitter.

It’s evident that Musk is actively involving Twitter’s user community in these changes. Before launching the new logo, he sought his millions of followers’ opinions through a poll, asking them to vote on changing the site’s color scheme from blue to black.

The responses to Musk’s recent announcements have been largely positive, with many Twitter users hailing the “dark mode” makeover as a “genius idea.” The anticipation among users for these changes is high, as they look forward to the revamped and unified appearance of the microblogging platform.
