Bailey’s performance captured the essence of Ariel’s longing to become human, showcasing the underwater magic that made “The Little Mermaid” a timeless classic. The song serves as the lead single for the upcoming live-action remake of the animated film, directed by Rob Marshall and scheduled to hit theaters on May 26.

The soundtrack for the new movie features new recordings of the original songs composed by Disney music veterans Alan Menken and Howard Ashman for the 1989 version. Menken also collaborated with Lin-Manuel Miranda to create four new songs for the remake, three of which will be featured in the film, with the fourth available as a DVD extra.

The star-studded cast of the live-action adaptation includes Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, and Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, a new character introduced in the movie.

During the Hollywood premiere of “The Little Mermaid,” Halle Bailey expressed her immense gratitude for being part of such a culturally significant film. Playing the role of Ariel in the Disney live-action remake, Bailey shared her excitement, stating, “This moment means everything to me, I’m so grateful to be here.”

She further emphasized the importance of representation, saying, “It means the world to me, especially for the beautiful babies to be able to see a reflection of themselves.” Bailey’s portrayal of Ariel not only brings a beloved character to life but also provides an opportunity for underrepresented communities to see themselves represented on the big screen.

As the release date of the film approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to experience the enchanting world of “The Little Mermaid” once again, this time with a fresh and diverse cast.
