Former captain Rashid Latif has urged 90s cricketers, especially the 1992 World Cup winners, to step away from Pakistan cricket affairs.
Speaking on Harna Mana Hai, a Geo News programme, Latif highlighted the struggle of Green Shirts to secure ICC titles consistently.
He suggested that the continued presence of 90s-era players in the management and decision-making processes might be preventing progress.
Latif pointed out that Pakistan took 17 years to win another World Cup after 1992, implying that the prolonged influence of former players had hindered the development.
He emphasized the need for fresh leadership and a shift in approach, arguing that former cricketers should step aside to allow new talent to thrive.
His comments came in the wake of the early exit of the Men in Green from the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025.
The defending champions, who lifted the trophy in 2017 under Sarfaraz Ahmed, endured a disappointing campaign.
Pakistan started their title defense with a 60-run defeat against New Zealand in Karachi on February 19.
A subsequent six-wicket loss to India, fueled by Virat Kohli’s century, further dented their hopes.
Their final group-stage match against Bangladesh was washed out, leaving them with just one point from three games.
