United States President, Donald Trump, has signed an executive order banning transgender girls and women from competing in female sports.

The order directs the Department of Justice to enforce the restriction under Title IX, a law designed to prevent sex-based discrimination in education.

“The war on women’s sports is over. My administration will not stand by and watch men beat and batter female athletes,” Donald Trump said.

The order threatens to withhold federal funding from schools that allow transgender athletes to participate in female sports.

It is expected to face legal challenges, with advocacy groups arguing it infringes on the rights of transgender individuals.

Critics, including LGBTQ+ organizations, have condemned the recent move from the newly elected President, warning it will lead to discrimination.

Kelley Robinson, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said the order would make life harder for transgender youth.

“For so many students, sports provide a sense of belonging. We should be encouraging participation, not excluding children based on politics,” she said.

The issue has become a focal point in United States politics, with Trump frequently addressing it at campaign rallies.

Public opinion remains divided, with polls indicating most Americans oppose transgender athletes competing in categories aligning with their gender identity.
