Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli has reportedly opened discussions with Lionel Messi’s representatives in a renewed attempt to bring the football legend to the Saudi Pro League once his current contract with Inter Miami ends later this year.

The 38-year-old forward joined Major League Soccer in mid-2023 after departing from Paris Saint-Germain, having previously declined an offer from Saudi Arabia. However, according to French publication L’Équipe, Al-Ahli—recent winners of the Asian Champions League—are once again making efforts to sign the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

While the financial terms remain undisclosed, Saudi officials are believed to be ready to table a substantial offer as part of their continued strategy to boost the league’s international profile. The move aligns with the country’s broader football ambitions, especially as it prepares to host the FIFA World Cup in 2034.

Meanwhile, Inter Miami reportedly wants to keep Messi beyond 2024. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the club is expected to begin formal talks soon to secure an extension, with Messi viewed as central to both sporting success and commercial growth.

The renewed interest comes shortly after Inter Miami’s early exit from the FIFA Club World Cup, where they were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain, Messi’s former club. Despite the setback, Messi continues to draw global attention and remains a fan favourite.
