Sarfaraz Ahmed Takes on Team Director Role at Quetta Gladiators

Quetta Gladiators have appointed Sarfaraz Ahmed as their team director ahead of the tournament’s 10th edition, set to begin on April 11.

Quetta Gladiators have appointed Sarfaraz Ahmed as their team director ahead of the tournament’s 10th edition, set to begin on April 11.

The decision comes after the former Pakistan captain, who had been released by the franchise, went unpicked in the recent player draft.

Reports initially suggested that Sarfaraz could replace Australian cricketer Shane Watson, who withdrew due to scheduling conflicts.

However, instead of a playing role, the franchise has now entrusted him with a managerial position.

The announcement was made by Quetta Gladiators’ owner, Nadeem Omer, during a sponsor signing ceremony.

He expressed confidence in Sarfaraz’s leadership abilities, recalling his past contributions to the team.

Omer believed that the combination of Sarfaraz as team director and Moin Khan as head coach could be beneficial for the franchise’s future success.

Sarfaraz has been an integral part of Quetta Gladiators since the league’s inception in 2016, leading them to their first and only PSL title in 2019.

Over his tenure, he played 86 matches, accumulating 1,525 runs at an average of 29.32, including seven half-centuries.

His captaincy, however, ended in 2023 when South African batter Rilee Rossouw took over.

Despite this shift, Sarfaraz’s new role ensures his continued involvement with the franchise as they prepare for the upcoming season.
