Rajasthan Royals’ Indian Premier League 2025 campaign came to an abrupt end on Thursday as they suffered a crushing 100-run loss to Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Mumbai, invited to bat first, put on a commanding performance with the bat, reaching 217 for 2 in 20 overs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton gave their team a dream start, stitching together a 116-run stand. Rickelton was the more aggressive of the two, hitting 61 off 38 balls before being bowled by Maheesh Theekshana. Rohit followed shortly after, having scored 53 from 36 deliveries.

Despite the double setback, Mumbai’s momentum stayed intact as skipper Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav guided their side to a strong finish. Both batters remained unbeaten on 48, adding 94 runs in just 8.3 overs to close the innings.

In response, Rajasthan Royals never found their footing. Their chase crumbled to 117 all out in 16.1 overs. Jofra Archer was the only batter to offer resistance with a 30-run knock. Skipper Riyan Parag contributed 16, while others struggled to keep up with the required run rate.

Mumbai’s bowlers were clinical throughout. Karna Sharma and Trent Boult claimed three wickets apiece, Jasprit Bumrah took two, while Hardik Pandya and Deepak Chahar chipped in with one each.

The victory pushed Mumbai Indians to the top of the IPL 2025 standings with 14 points from 11 games. Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, became the second team to be eliminated from playoff contention after Chennai Super Kings’ exit a day earlier.
