The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is on track for a significant expansion, with plans to increase the number of participating teams from six to eight.

League officials have confirmed that discussions are underway, with the new franchises expected to be introduced by the end of 2025.

PSL CEO Salman Naseer stated that meticulous groundwork is being laid to ensure a smooth transition, emphasizing the commitment to maintaining competitive balance.

He noted that continuous developments are strengthening the tournament’s appeal, reinforcing its position as a premier T20 league.

Since its launch, the PSL has grown substantially, initially being hosted in the UAE before fully transitioning to Pakistan.

The shift has played a crucial role in reviving international cricket in the country.

Naseer highlighted the challenge of restoring global cricketing events to Pakistan, stressing the importance of maintaining high standards as the league expands.

PSL 2026 is also set to broaden its geographical reach, with efforts to engage fans in new cities.

Peshawar is scheduled to host an exhibition match, marking a step toward its inclusion in future PSL fixtures.

Additionally, for the first time, the PSL trophy will embark on a nationwide tour, allowing fans across Pakistan to connect with the event.

With increasing global T20 competitions, concerns over player workload management persist.

However, Naseer assured that the PSL remains committed to its established January-February window, aiming to maintain its competitive edge.
