roteas Finalise Squad for Historic WTC Final

South Africa has named a strong 15-member squad for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 Final against Australia, scheduled to start on June 11 at Lord’s. This marks the Proteas’ first appearance in a WTC final, having topped the table with a 69.44% points percentage.

Temba Bavuma will lead the team in a highly anticipated clash for Test cricket’s ultimate prize. A major boost for South Africa is the return of fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who missed the home season due to a groin injury but has since returned to form in limited-overs cricket.

The squad sees only two changes from the one that beat Pakistan. Young fast bowler Kwena Maphaka has been replaced by the experienced Ngidi, while batter Matthew Breetzke has also been left out.

The top order will feature Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, and Aiden Markram. Bavuma, David Bedingham, and Tristan Stubbs will provide strength in the middle, while Kyle Verreynne takes up wicketkeeping duties.

South Africa’s pace attack looks well-rounded with Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Wiaan Mulder, Dane Paterson, Corbin Bosch, and Ngidi. Keshav Maharaj will lead the spin department with support from Senuran Muthusamy.

The Proteas played 12 Tests during the WTC cycle, winning eight. After a drawn series against India and a loss in New Zealand, they recovered strongly with series wins over West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan.

Australia have also confirmed their squad, which includes the return of all-rounder Cameron Green.
