The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to reassess its decision to slash match fees for players and reserves in the upcoming National T20 Cup.

The move comes after widespread criticism from fans and analysts, questioning the financial state of domestic cricket.

According to reports, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has directed officials to restore the fees to previous levels. Initially, the board had reduced payments by 75%, setting player fees at PKR 10,000 (USD 35 approx.) per match and PKR 5,000 for reserves.

Following strong reactions, the revised structure is expected to return to PKR 40,000 for players and PKR 20,000 for reserves. However, this remains lower than the PKR 60,000 paid in 2022.

The decision coincides with a difficult phase for Pakistan cricket, as the national team’s early exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy and the ICC sidelining PCB management during the final in Dubai have raised further concerns.

The National T20 Cup begins tomorrow, featuring 39 matches in Faisalabad, Lahore, and Multan. The final will be held in Faisalabad on March 27.

Several key players will miss the tournament due to international commitments in New Zealand.

While the fee restoration has been welcomed, questions persist about PCB’s financial management and its long-term impact on domestic cricket.
