The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced domestic contracts for 90 women cricketers for the 2024-25 season, aiming to strengthen the country’s women’s cricket structure.
The contracts cover players across different categories, providing financial stability and development opportunities.
The list includes 18 U-19 players, who will receive monthly retainers to support their transition to senior-level cricket.
These players were part of the ACC Women’s U19 Asia Cup 2024-25 and are preparing for the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup 2025.
Additionally, 62 players have been selected in the emerging category, while 10 centrally contracted national players are also included.
The Women’s National Selection Committee, comprising former Test cricketer Asad Shafiq and ex-Pakistan international Batool Fatima, finalized the list based on performances in domestic tournaments. The contracts will be in effect from July 2024 to June 2025.
Meanwhile, the PCB has reconsidered its decision to cut match fees for players and reserves in the National T20 Cup after facing strong criticism.
Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly instructed officials to restore payments to their previous levels.
The board had initially reduced fees by 75%, lowering them to PKR 10,000 (USD 35) per match for players and PKR 5,000 for reserves.
The move led to widespread backlash, with concerns raised over financial constraints.
PCB sources, however, clarified that the reduction was due to an expanded domestic schedule, which they argued would create more earning opportunities.
