Fakhar Zaman was forced to leave the field with a back injury during the opening over of the Champions Trophy match against New Zealand.

The incident took place as Pakistan’s pace spearhead Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled the first over of the match at the National Stadium.

The left-handed batter sustained the injury while making a diving effort near the boundary to prevent a four.

Although he successfully stopped the ball and relayed it back to his teammates, he appeared to be in visible discomfort.

Holding his lower back, the opening batter signalled for a substitute before receiving initial medical attention near the advertising boards.

The physiotherapist briefly assessed him on the field before escorting him to the dressing room for further evaluation.

The management has not yet provided an update on the severity of the injury, leaving concerns about his availability.

Talking about the game, the national bowling unit dominated by taking three wickets for 73 runs while bowling first.

Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Abrar Ahmed have taken one wicket each, while Shaheen Shah remains wicketless.
