Lionel Messi will miss Inter Miami’s upcoming Leagues Cup match against Pumas UNAM after suffering a minor leg injury during the team’s recent win over Necaxa.

The Argentine forward, who turned 37 earlier this year, was forced off after picking up a muscle strain in his right leg.

Head coach Javier Mascherano confirmed that while the injury is not serious, Messi will not be fit for the next match. He added that Messi usually heals quickly, and his progress will be closely monitored.

With no confirmed return date, there remains cautious optimism within the Miami camp that their star player could be ready if they make it past the group stage.

Inter Miami faces a tough challenge against Pumas, needing a win to secure a spot in the quarter-finals. The club will hope the two-week break before the next round proves enough time for Messi to return.

Messi has already scored 18 times this MLS season and has been central to Miami’s transformation since arriving last year.

After the Pumas clash, Miami will return to MLS action against rivals Orlando City.
