Jason Gillespie Slams Aaqib Javed Over Pakistan Cricket’s Coaching Crisis

Former Pakistan red-ball coach Jason Gillespie has accused interim head coach Aaqib Javed of deliberately undermining him and his predecessor, Gary Kirsten.

Gillespie, who left his position just months into his tenure, blamed Javed for his and Kirsten’s abrupt exits.

Javed’s recent remarks about Pakistan’s struggles in the Champions Trophy 2025 sparked the controversy.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore on Tuesday, he attributed the team’s decline to frequent coaching and selection changes, stating that 16 coaches and 26 selectors had been appointed over the past two and a half years, disrupting the system.

Before Javed took over as interim coach, Gary Kirsten was appointed as the white-ball coach, while Gillespie was given charge of the Test team.

Both were hired on two-year contracts before the T20 World Cup 2024, but Kirsten resigned shortly after the tournament.

Gillespie was later dismissed after refusing to assume an all-format coaching role without changes to his contract and salary.

Gillespie responded to Javed’s comments on Threads, ridiculing him as a “clown” and accusing him of working behind the scenes to push him and Kirsten out in a bid to secure the coaching position for himself.
