Cristiano Ronaldo has sparked speculation about his future after suggesting his time with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr may be coming to an end. In a recent social media post, the 40-year-old forward shared a photo wearing the team’s jersey and wrote that “this chapter is over,” though he added that “the story is still being written,” expressing gratitude for the journey so far.

Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr is set to expire this summer, and while no official confirmation has been made, his words have been widely interpreted as a farewell message. The Portuguese striker joined the Riyadh-based side in late 2022 following his exit from Manchester United.

Despite being the league’s top scorer with 24 goals this season, Ronaldo’s efforts could not deliver a trophy for Al Nassr. The team finished third in the Saudi Pro League and was eliminated in the AFC Champions League semi-finals by Kawasaki Frontale of Japan.

Talks about his next destination have gained momentum ahead of the expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, starting June 14. Though Al Nassr failed to qualify, FIFA President Gianni Infantino hinted at possible arrangements that could allow Ronaldo to play for another club in the tournament.

Infantino remarked during an interview that conversations with clubs are ongoing and left the door open for Ronaldo’s involvement.

With the special transfer window for the Club World Cup opening on June 1, football fans now await Ronaldo’s next move.
