Gearbox Entertainment has officially confirmed that Borderlands 4 will release on September 12, 2025. The announcement revealed a new planet, fresh characters, and gameplay designed for the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The story unfolds on Kairos, a war-torn planet once hidden by a powerful force known as the Timekeeper. Players will step into the shoes of new Vault Hunters, including Vex, a Siren with supernatural powers, and Rafa, an Exo-Soldier equipped with a high-tech combat suit. Each character will have distinct traits and a new skill tree system offering deep customization.

Creative Director Graeme Timmins shared that the game builds on nearly two decades of Borderlands history, aiming to offer the most ambitious experience yet. Players can expect improved movement mechanics, vast open-world exploration, and the classic looter-shooter action fans know and love.

The planet Kairos itself plays a central role, filled with enemy factions, rogue technology, and hidden Vaults containing high-value loot. The environment encourages exploration, with gliding, grappling, and personalized vehicles helping players traverse the terrain.

The gameplay trailer also introduced new enemies, advanced gear systems, and revamped boss battles. A new weapon modification feature, called Licensed Parts, will allow guns to combine traits from multiple manufacturers.

Multiplayer has also received attention, offering co-op through local split-screen or online play, with cross-platform support.

Gearbox will host a hands-on preview event in June to reveal more details. With a mix of old favorites and bold new ideas, Borderlands 4 promises a thrilling return for fans and a fresh start for newcomers.
