Pakistan’s legendary tennis star, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, has officially announced his retirement from professional tennis, marking the end of a remarkable career that lasted more than two decades. The announcement was made during the opening ceremony of the first ever ATP Challenger Pakistan, held at the PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad on November 23.
This ongoing tournament in Islamabad will be Aisam’s final international event. He is taking part in the doubles category alongside Muzammil Murtaza, hoping to finish his journey with the same passion and grace that defined his entire career. For over twenty years, Aisam proudly represented Pakistan on global courts, bringing honour, recognition, and unforgettable moments to the nation.
The inaugural ceremony was filled with emotion. As Aisam stood under the lights, players, officials, and fans rose to give him a heartfelt tribute. Applause echoed through the arena as people honoured the man who carried Pakistan’s flag across the world with dignity and skill.
In his farewell speech, Aisam shared memories of his early struggles and the challenges he faced at the start of his career. He thanked his family especially his parents whose love and support guided him throughout his journey. He also expressed gratitude to his coaches, mentors, fellow athletes, and the sports media for standing by him in both good and difficult times.
The evening also included the formal introduction of all international and local players competing in the ATP Challenger Islamabad tournament, adding more significance to the historic event.
With his retirement, Pakistan says goodbye to a true sports hero. Aisam-ul-Haq’s journey may be ending on the court, but his legacy will continue to inspire young players for generations to come.
