The ICC Champions Trophy is set to begin on Wednesday in Pakistan, marking a special moment for the country as it hosts the event for the first time.

Due to political tensions with India, the neighboring country will play its matches in Dubai, while Pakistan will aim to defend its title.

The Champions Trophy has witnessed a long history of remarkable records over the years. This time, 8 teams are participating, divided into two groups.

Group A consists of Pakistan, India, New Zealand, and Bangladesh, while Group B includes England, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan.

Each team will play against the others in their respective groups, with the top two teams based on points and net run rate progressing to the semifinals.

The history of the event is filled with notable achievements.

  1. New Zealand holds the record for the highest team score in a Champions Trophy innings, scoring 347/4 against the USA in 2004 at The Oval.
  2. Pakistan’s highest total is 338/4 against India in the 2017 final at The Oval.
  3. Australia bowled out the USA for the lowest total of 65 runs in 2004 at Southampton.
  4. Pakistan’s lowest score is 89 all out against South Africa in 2006 at Mohali.
  5. New Zealand achieved the biggest victory margin by runs, defeating the USA by 210 runs in 2004 at The Oval.
  6. Pakistan’s largest win was by 180 runs against India in the 2017 final at The Oval.
  7. West Indies secured the biggest win by wickets, beating Bangladesh by 10 wickets in 2006 at Jaipur.
  8. Pakistan’s biggest win by wickets was by 9 wickets against Sri Lanka in 2000 at Nairobi.
  9. India won the closest match by runs, beating England by 5 runs in the 2013 final at Birmingham.
  10. New Zealand won the narrowest match by wickets, defeating Sri Lanka by 1 wicket in 2013 at Cardiff.
  11. Pakistan’s closest win by runs was by 19 runs against South Africa in 2017 at Birmingham.
  12. Pakistan’s narrowest win by wickets was by 3 wickets against India in 2004 at Birmingham and against Sri Lanka in 2017 at Cardiff.
  13. West Indies’ Chris Gayle is the top run-scorer in Champions Trophy history with 791 runs from 17 matches at an average of 52.73.
  14. Pakistan’s highest run-scorer is Mohammad Yousuf, with 484 runs from 13 matches at an average of 48.40.
  15. The highest individual score is jointly held by New Zealand’s Nathan Astle (145*) against the USA in 2004 at The Oval and Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower (145) against India in 2002 at Colombo.
  16. Shoaib Malik holds Pakistan’s highest individual score, 128 against India in 2009 at Centurion.
  17. A total of 50 centuries have been scored in Champions Trophy history, with India leading the chart with 10 centuries.
  18. Saeed Anwar is Pakistan’s only player with multiple centuries (2) in the tournament.
  19. Chris Gayle holds the record for most runs in a single edition, scoring 474 runs in 8 matches in the 2006-07 tournament in India.
  20. Fakhar Zaman is Pakistan’s top run-scorer in a single edition, scoring 252 runs in 4 matches in 2017.
  21. New Zealand’s Kyle Mills is the leading wicket-taker in Champions Trophy history with 28 wickets from 15 matches at an average of 17.25.
  22. Shahid Afridi is Pakistan’s leading wicket-taker, claiming 14 wickets from 13 matches at an average of 30.50.
  23. Sri Lanka’s Farveez Maharoof recorded the best bowling figures, taking 6/14 against West Indies in 2006 at Mumbai.
  24. Pakistan’s best bowling figures are Shahid Afridi’s 5/11 against Kenya in 2004 at Birmingham.
  25. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood is the only other bowler with a six-wicket haul, taking 6/52 against New Zealand in 2017 at Birmingham.
  26. A total of 47 four-wicket hauls have been taken in the tournament’s history by 40 different bowlers, with 7 bowlers achieving this twice.
  27. Pakistan has had 4 bowlers claim four-wicket hauls in an innings in Champions Trophy history.
