ISLAMABAD: Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, is being observed across Pakistan today (Sunday) with deep reverence and solemnity to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions at Karbala.

The martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), stands as a symbol of resistance against tyranny and injustice and conveys the eternal message of upholding the truth and preserving the essence of Islam.

Special security arrangements have been put in place nationwide to ensure peace and safety during the processions. Law enforcement agencies have been deployed in sensitive areas to prevent any untoward incidents.

Earlier, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting of the Muharram moon, announcing that Ashura would fall on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Muharram also marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar. The 1st of Muharram is observed as Youm-e-Umar, honoring the martyrdom of Hazrat Umar ibn al-Khattab (RA), the second Caliph of Islam.

Ashura remains a significant day in Islamic history, reminding Muslims of the timeless message of sacrifice, steadfastness, and faith demonstrated by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his loyal followers at the battlefield of Karbala.
