A devastating bomb blast struck a volleyball ground in the Barmal area of South Waziristan’s Lower Wana Tehsil on Tuesday evening, leaving at least 17 civilians — including children — severely injured.

According to eyewitness accounts, the explosion occurred during a friendly volleyball match, instantly turning the lively gathering into a scene of chaos. The blast triggered panic among both players and spectators, as people scrambled for safety.

The situation worsened when intense gunfire was heard following the explosion, heightening fear and confusion in the area. Local residents reported scenes of widespread panic, with injured individuals lying on the ground as others tried to assist them.

Rescue efforts began swiftly as all injured persons were transported to Wana Headquarters Hospital for medical treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that several victims, including children, were in critical condition.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the nature and origin of the explosion. It remains unclear whether the attack involved a planted explosive device or was caused by a drone strike, as speculated by some locals.

Security has been tightened in the region, and a search operation is underway to apprehend those responsible for the attack. Meanwhile, the incident has left the residents of Barmal in shock, with many retreating indoors due to fear of further violence.

The volatile security situation in South Waziristan, especially in Lower Wana Tehsil, has prompted fresh concerns over civilian safety amid renewed threats of violence in tribal districts.
