A complaint has been filed with the Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), now operating as the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), seeking legal action against former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram for allegedly promoting an online sports betting and gambling platform.
According to the application, submitted by a citizen named Muhammad Fiaz, Akram appeared as a brand ambassador for an Indian betting company linked to the platform “Baji.” The complainant claimed that a poster and video circulating on social media showed Akram encouraging people to join the app for an “exciting experience” and to earn money.

The application stated that by endorsing the platform, Akram was effectively “promoting gambling in Pakistan,” an activity strictly prohibited under the law. The complainant has urged authorities to take action against the former cricketer under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
The development comes at a time when Pakistani authorities are tightening scrutiny on influencers and celebrities involved in promoting gambling apps.
Just days earlier, popular YouTuber Saad ur Rehman, widely known as Ducky Bhai, was arrested in Lahore for allegedly promoting similar online betting platforms, including Binomo, 1xBet, Bet365, and B9 Game. He was booked under multiple sections of PECA, as well as provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code related to fraud and obscenity, and remains in NCCIA custody on physical remand.
So far, Wasim Akram has not issued any public response to the allegations against him.
