In Gilgit-Baltistan, police officers and personnel have been barred from using TikTok, following a directive from the inspector general’s office aimed at preserving the force’s dignity.
The notification, issued Monday, warned that violations would invite disciplinary action. District police officers and unit heads have been tasked with ensuring strict compliance.
The order mirrors a growing trend across Pakistan. In recent months, Islamabad and Punjab police rolled out formal social media guidelines restricting officials from making videos, expressing personal opinions, or posting political and religious content.
The clampdown follows a string of incidents where uniformed officers uploaded TikTok clips, sparking criticism about professionalism. In July, two Islamabad constables were suspended for breaching the rules. Sources revealed that several others were cautioned and ordered to delete their accounts.
This is not the first time state institutions have been reminded about online discipline. In September last year, the federal government instructed all employees not to share internal information or engage in political debates online.
